Panthers Face Road Matches At IPFW, Detroit
April 4, 2007
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team heads on the road for a pair of matches later this week. The Panthers will play at IPFW Thursday afternoon in a match that was postponed from Feb. 24. UWM will then square off with Horizon League rival Detroit Friday afternoon. UWM (9-7) snapped a two-match losing streak with an easy 7-0 win over South Dakota State Saturday. The Panthers won all six singles matches and all three doubles contests to claim their first 7-0 win since last season. During the contest, freshman Ali O'Neal won her 16th match of the season, tying a school record. UWM's nine team wins are also the most since the 1996-97 campaign. Milwaukee opens play this week 2-2 in league action. The Panthers should be tested in both of their contests this weekend. IPFW (10-9) has gone 1-2 against Horizon League squads this season, beating Wright State while falling to Green Bay and Detroit. The Titans (4-9), meanwhile, are 0-2 in league play, having lost to UIC and Green Bay. Detroit's dropped matches to Nova Southeastern and Lynn on its recent trip to Florida, and the Titans will still have four more league matches remaining after their contest with the Panthers. UWM will then wrap up the regular season next weekend with home matches against Cleveland State and Youngstown State.
