Panthers Return From Extended Break With Busy Weekend

UWM to face Western Illinois, SEMO, Upper Iowa

March 26, 2008

MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team returns from an extended layoff by heading to Macomb, Ill., for a three-match weekend.

The Panthers will face Western Illinois and Southeast Missouri State Saturday before squaring off with Upper Iowa Sunday.

Milwaukee (9-7) has not played since a March 7 loss at Ball State that snapped a four-match winning streak.

The Panthers continue to be led by a large group of young players. Freshman Jenna Felsher has 18 total singles wins while freshman Sammi Schoen has 15 singles victories. Each player has seen nine of those wins come in dual matches, tied for team-high honors with sophomore Kari Kastenholz. Kastenholz has also teamed with fellow sophomore Kelly Drvaric to collect 12 doubles wins, including six in the #1 slot in dual matches.

Western Illinois carries a 5-7 record into a match Wednesday with Bradley. The Leathernecks has won three of their last four outings and are led by Amanda Griffin, who has a 5-5 mark in dual matches at #1 singles. SEMO is 3-8 this season and has dropped five of its last six matches entering the weekend. Bryce Krystal leads the way with an 8-3 dual-match mark at #1 singles. Upper Iowa, an NCAA Division II school, is 5-5 this spring after going 3-5 this fall.
