Kastenholz Named League Player Of The Week

Freshman is second Panther to be honored this season

March 8, 2007

MILWAUKEE - Freshman Kari Kastenholz of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has been named the Horizon League Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced today.

Kastenholz led the Panthers (8-5) to three wins this past weekend, including a triumph over league foe Wright State Friday night.

The freshman played at #2 singles in all three matches, picking up three wins. The victories upped her spring singles record to 4-4. She also teamed with Ashley Schoneman to claim a win at #1 doubles against Wright State. The win was crucial to the 4-3 victory, with the Panthers claiming the doubles point in a match for the first time this spring.

Overall, the efforts by Kastenholz helped the Panthers claim three-straight wins over Division I foes for the first time in nine-plus seasons.

Kastenholz is the second Panther to claim league honors this season, with Ali O'Neal winning the award last month.

UWM returns to action this weekend, traveling to Cedar Falls, Iowa, for a contest with Northern Iowa.
