Panthers Open Spring Season At Marquette

Young squad will face crosstown rivals

Jan. 25, 2007

MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team opens its 2007 spring season Sunday with a match against Marquette.

The two teams will square off at 4 p.m. at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

The Panthers won each of its matches this fall, downing both UW-Whitewater and UW-LaCrosse. UWM also posted some impressive performances in tournament play through the fall, with freshmen Ali O'Neal and Ashley Schoneman each collecting nine singles wins. UWM will field a very young squad this spring, with four freshmen and a sophomore among the seven players on the team.

The Golden Eagles started their spring season with a 4-3 loss to Illinois last week. Marquette is also scheduled to face Louisville and Iowa this weekend.

The weekend's opener will mark the first of four-straight weekends the Panthers will spend on the road. They are scheduled to open their home slate Feb. 24 against IPFW.
