Fenley, Litscher Advance To Semis In Chicago

UWM goes 8-5 in singles

CHICAGO - Lauren Fenley and Traci Litscher advanced to the semifinals of Flight B singles on day one of the Chicago State Invitational.

Overall, UWM finished the day 8-5 in singles play while also dropping a doubles contest to the University of Evansville.

Litscher defeated Stephanie Mills of Evansville, 6-4, 6-1 and Stacy Brown of Ferris State, 6-0, 6-1. Meanwhile, Fenley downed Allison Cox of Evansville, 6-1, 6-3 before beating teammate Samantha Drews, 5-7, 6-0, 6-3. Drews had earlier defeated Jessie Conklin of Ferris State, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5. Also in Flight B, Ashley Schoneman split of pair of matches, downing Justine Kentla of the University of Chicago, 6-0, 6-1, before falling to Ade Omodele-Lucien of Chicago, 7-5, 6-4.

In Flight A singles, Kari Kastenholz and Ali O'Neal each split a pair of matches, while Ashley Clark dropped her only match.

In the only doubles action of the day, UWM fell to Evansville, 2-1. O'Neal and Schoneman combined for the Panthers' victory.

"I thought it was a very respectable day," UWM head coach Matt McCaskill said. "Traci and Lauren were certainly the stars of the day, and Ali continues to impress with eight wins at singles and seven wins at doubles this fall."

Action continues today at Chicago State. The host Cougars and UWM are joined in the tournament by Evansville, Ferris State and the University of Chicago
