MACOMB, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team got its play in the Hinds-Kellogg Classic at Western Illinois University off to a fine start Friday afternoon.

The Panthers captured wins in nine of 10 singles matches and six of eight doubles matches on the first day of the event, which continues throughout Saturday.

Sophomore Ashley Schoneman highlighted the day for Milwaukee, going 1-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles action. Meanwhile, sophomores Kari Kastenholz and Kelly Drvaric have each advanced to the semifinals in Flight 1 singles action.

"Obviously it was a great day," UWM head coach Matt McCaskill said. "We didn't always play our best but we found ways to win. It wasn't pretty but it was successful."

UWM will continue action in the tournament on Saturday.
