VanLieshout and Halcomb Finish Fourth At Ball State

Three Panthers post wins on weekend

MILWAUKEE - Freshmen Alyssa Halcomb and Margie VanLieshout each collected their second win of the season in the first round of play to finish fourth at the Ball State Tournament in Muncie, Ind., this weekend.

Halcomb defeated her first round opponent, Stephanie Blaney of IPFW, 6-4, 6-0, before falling to Dayton's Christie Whalen, 6-2, 6-1, on Friday. In the third-place match Saturday, she lost to Butler's Taye Bailey, 6-2, 6-1, to finish fourth in No. 2 singles.

In No. 3 singles, VanLieshout defeated IPFW's Michelle Humphrey, 6-1, 6-0, before falling to IUPUI's Michelle Cunningham, 6-2, 6-3, on Friday. Saturday, she fell to Rebecca Stanchin of Dayton, 6-1, 6-0.

In other singles action, sophomore Megan Brown finished seventh at No. 4 singles, winning her final match against Butler's Annie Gantz, 6-4, 7-5, to finish the weekend at 2-1.

The Panthers return to the courts next weekend when they tangle with Missouri-Kansas City in Chicago at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Chicago.
