Tennis Completes Day One Of Ball State Invitational

Panthers struggle in opening tournament of fall

MUNCIE, Ind. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team struggled on the opening day of the Ball State Invitational.

The Panthers were competitive in doubles, seeing two teams drop tough 8-5 decisions. But UWM could not break through in singles play, as all nine Panthers finished winless against a tough field.

The doubles team of Tammie Spiel and Erin Felber fell, 8-5, to Tessa Williams and Alyssa Halcomb of IUPUI. The pair of Ellen Anderson and Carrie Salo also lost a tough, 8-5, battle to a team from Butler.

In singles play, Tammie Spiel and Margie Van Lieshout each went 0-2 in Flight A while Traci Litscher and Erin Felber each dropped two matches in Flight B. Alissa Matzinger went 0-2 and Shayna Illingworth 0-1 in Flight C while Carrie Salo was 0-2 in Flight D and Ellen Anderson 0-2 in Flight E.

Action at the event continues tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. with more singles play and the second round of doubles play
