Panthers Find Some Success On Opening Day At Bradley

UWM claims two wins over Western Illinois

PEORIA, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team opened the fall portion of its 2005-2006 season by scoring a pair of wins over Western Illinois on the first day of the Bradley Invitational.

UWM also dropped a pair of mini-duels to IUPUI and one to Bradley. Each duel included three matches.

The first win over Western Illinois came in doubles, as the Panthers captured a 3-0 win. Margie Van Lieshout and Traci Litscher downed Constanza Comacho and Andrea Courtney, 8-4, and Shayna Illingworth and Samantha Drews defeated Tracey Forkin and Jennifer Lutzke, 8-5. UWM then completed the sweep as Lauren Fenley and Elizabeth Angel beat Danielle Moy and Jessica Drake, 8-2.

The second win over Western Illnois came in singles, as the Panthers snuck out a 2-1 victory. Angel claimed a 6-4, 6-5 win over Drake and Drews downed Moy, 6-1, 4-6, 12-10.

In other action during the day, Bradley beat UWM in singles play, 3-0, while IUPUI claimed a pair of 3-0 singles wins over the Panthers.

Action at the event continues Sunday.
