Panthers Open Hotels At Grand Prairie Invite With Strong Play

UWM goes 5-2 in singles action

Sept. 12, 2008

PEORIA, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis opened play at the Hotels At Grand Prairie Invitational Friday by going 5-2 in singles play.

Sammi Schoen and Kelly Drvaric each claimed wins in Flight A singles play while Ashley Schoneman, Megan Gow and Jenna Felsher each captured victories in Flight B singles.

Schoen's victory came in three sets against Emily Regenold, Bradley's top singles player. Meanwhile, Schoneman bounced back from a bout with the flu Thursday to claim a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kari Patrashek of Green Bay.

"We really showed some good improvement from our match Thursday with Whitewater," UWM head coach Matt McCaskill said. "It was a good day for us and we got contributions from a lot of our players."

Action in both singles and doubles play continues Saturday in Peoria.
