UIC Eliminates Panther Tennis Team

UWM falls, 5-0, in first round at Horizon League Championships

April 28, 2002

MILWAUKEE - The UWM women's tennis team fell to eventual league-champion UIC, 5-0, in the first round of the Horizon League Tennis Tournament yesterday in Indianapolis, Ind. UIC went on to win their fifth-straight league championship.

UIC took the doubles point, as Molly Caulk and Tammie Spiel fell by an 8-4 count. Julie Heling and Shauna Jansen fell, 8-3, while Megan Brown and Cassie Kuranz lost 8-2.

In singles play, only four matches were played to completion, as UIC clinched the victory. Caulk, Kuranz, Jansen and Heling all lost in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

Saturday's match with the Flames was the only one the Panthers played, as inclement weather forced the tournament indoors and also forced the cancellation of the consolation bracket.
