Women's Tennis Earns Weekend Split

Panthers defeat Chicago State, lose to Northern Illinois

MILWAUKEE - The UWM women's tennis team earned a split over the weekend with a pair of matches against schools from northern Illinois. On Saturday, Milwaukee fell to Northern Illinois in DeKalb, Ill., by a 7-0 margin. Alyssa Halcomb, Tammie Spiel and Erin Felber each lost by 6-0, 6-2 counts, while Margie Van Lieshout lost by a 6-2, 6-0 score.

The Panthers rebounded on Sunday to defeat Chicago State in Chicago by a 4-3 margin. Tammie Spiel picked up a win at No. 4 singles, winning 6-3, 6-2, while Cassie Kuranz won at No. 5 singles, 7-5, 6-1. Erin Felber won at No. 6 by default, and the Panthers picked up the doubles point, with Molly Caulk and Kuranz winning at No. 2 doubles, 8-3, and Felber and Melissa Hackett winning at No. 3 doubles by default.

The Panthers move to 3-7 on the year with the weekend split. Up next for Milwaukee is a Saturday matchup with Youngstown State at 4 p.m. Moorland Racquet Club in New Berlin.
