MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee won a pair of singles matches but fell short in three other tight singles contests in falling 5-2 to UW-Green Bay Sunday in Horizon League tennis action.

Elizabeth Angel and Lauren Fenley claimed the wins for Milwaukee, which also battled before dropping the doubles point.

Angel's win came at #4 singles, a step up from her usual #5 singles slot. She tallied a 6-3, 7-6 (1) victory over Megan Gregory. Meanwhile, Lauren Fenley celebrated her birthday by capturing a 6-3, 6-1 win over Kari Petrashek at #5 singles.

Then, the Panthers just missed out in claiming enough victories to win the match. Margie Van Lieshout fell in three sets at #1 singles, Traci Litscher fell in three sets at #3 singles and Samantha Drews dropped a tough three-setter at #6 singles.

In doubles play, Drews and Van Lieshout claimed an 8-3 win at #2 doubles, but UWM could not win a second match and claim the doubles point.

"Everyone really battled in their singles matches but winning the doubles point is huge and we have not been doing a great job of that," Milwaukee head coach Matt McCaskill said. "If we could go into the singles matches up 1-0, it would be a huge advantage. We were on the short side of three tough three-set matches, so it is tough to pull out a team win. But, Elizabeth continues to play well and she did a very nice job of stepping up to number four. And, the win by Lauren was a nice birthday present."

UWM returns to action in two weeks, taking a spring break trip to Orlando, Fla.
