Panthers Bounce Wright StateMarch 2, 2007
MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team claimed a doubles point for the first time this spring, making the difference in a tough 4-3 win over Wright State Friday night at North Shore Elite. The Panthers (6-5, 2-2 Horizon) also won three of the singles matches in claiming a second regular season league contest for the first time since the 1996-97 season. "This was a huge conference win for us," UWM head coach Matt McCaskill said. "We came out fast and got up early by winning the doubles point, and then we fought our way through singles. It was a great effort by Kari Kastenholz in winning both singles and doubles. Hopefully this will be a confidence builder for us." Kastenholz and Ashley Schoneman teamed up at #1 doubles for an 8-4 win while Kelly Drvaric and Ali O'Neal paired up for an 8-1 win at #2 doubles. Traci Litscher and Shayna Illingworth then wrapped up the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win in the third slot. In singles play, Kastenholz rolled past Audra Beckett, 6-4, 6-2, at #2 singles to help the Panthers clinch the victory. In UWM's other singles wins, Litscher romped over Monica Capozziello, 6-0, 6-0, in the #5 slot while Lauren Fenley captured a 6-4, 6-0 victory in the #6 slot. UWM continues its busy home weekend by hosting Western Illinois Saturday night at 7 p.m.
