MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team dropped a pair of home matches this weekend, falling to Northern Iowa Saturday night and Chicago State Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers (0-4) struggled Saturday against a talented Northern Iowa squad, falling 7-0. But UWM rebounded to battle with Chicago State, winning the doubles point and an early singles match before falling, 5-2.

Sunday's play was highlighted by the efforts of senior Erin Felber, who claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win over Colette Hurt at #5 singles and teamed with Traci Litscher for an 8-3 win at #3 doubles.

"Erin was really the star of the day," UWM head coach Matt McCaskill said. "She really gave us a big boost in both singles and doubles."

The Panthers also got a solid effort from freshman Alissa Matzinger, who nearly pulled out a win at #6 singles before falling in three sets.

"Alissa really had a great performance," McCaskill said. "We got a very strong boost from our doubles play and in some of our singles matches."

Saturday, the Panthers could never get on track against a UNI squad that seems destined for a strong finish in the Missouri Valley Conference.

"They were a very strong and well-coached team," McCaskill said. "I know they weren't picked very high in their league but I really believe they can finish in the top four. It was good to see Margie (Van Lieshout) and Tammie (Spiel) compete very well in singles play against some very tough players."

UWM returns to the road next weekend, traveling to Peoria, Ill., for matches with Bradley and Creighton. The Panthers' next home match is Feb. 26.
