Swim Teams Earn Another Academic Honor
June 26, 2003 MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's swimming and diving teams were named Academic All-American by the College Swim Coaches Association of America, the group announced today. This marks the 29th-consecutive semester the women's team has made the list, while the men's team made the list for the fourth-straight semester. The women's team finished the spring semester with a cumulative grade point average of 3.021, placing them 60th in Division I. UIC and Wright State also made the list out of the Horizon League. The men's team tied with Alabama for 15th among all Division I schools, posting a grade point average of 3.083. That put the Panthers ahead of both UIC and Wright State, the only two other league teams to make the list. "It's nice to have the men's team in the top 20 in the country," head coach Dave Clark said. "They're starting to show some consistency, with this being their fourth straight appearance on the list. The women's team is always consistently above a 3.0, I have to give them credit for the high standards they've set time and time again."
The team honor comes on the heels of three Panthers being named Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Peter Clark was named to the All-District first team, while Josh Baseheart and Sarah Caldwell were both named to the All-District second team.
