"It is great to see the academic success of our student-athletes," UWM head coach Dave Griffore said. "They are here for an education first and we stress the importance of academics ... swimming is just a bonus."

On the women's side, senior Lindsay Caldwell was one of 11 student-athletes league-wide to be honored for a third time. In February, she won Horizon League Championship Swimmer of the Meet honors for the third straight season. She claimed four league titles as a senior (50/100/200 freestyle and one relay) to bring her career total to 13 (eight individual and five relay). She won Horizon League Scholar Athlete of the Week twice this year and leaves the program holding 16 records (11 school/five league). Caldwell carries a 3.57 grade point average as a journalism/mass communications major.

Senior Crystal Szymanski earned the honor despite missing more than half the season to injury. She came back to earn Horizon League Diver of the Meet honors at the League Championships, claiming a league title on the one-meter board and second place on the three-meter board. She is a Spanish major with a 3.432 GPA.

On the men's side, senior Karl Winderl is the Panthers lone repeat honoree. He set personal-bests in the 500 and 1650 freestyles as a senior and was also named the valedictorian of UWM's school of business. Winderl is an accounting major with a 3.953 GPA in the classroom.

Junior David Yugo had an impressive season in the pool and out, establishing career-bests in the 100, 200 and 500 freestyles. The team captain is a business major with a 3.657 GPA.

Robby Leibold is the only student-athlete of the six selected that is a sophomore. He was named Horizon League Scholar Athlete of the Week twice this season and set personal-bests in the 500 and 1650 freestyle this season. He carries a 3.845 GPA and is undecided on his intended major.
