UWM Women Open Horizon League Championships In ClevelandFeb. 22, 2006 CLEVELAND, Ohio - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming & diving team sits in third place after day one of the Horizon League Championships, which began in Cleveland, Ohio, tonight. The Panthers have 98 points, trailing only UW-Green Bay (116) and Wright State (124). The team opened the meet with a school-record time in the 200 freestyle relay, as junior Lindsay Caldwell and sophomores Kristin Skiba, Heidi Goetsch and Jess Kelly were touched out for a championship, placing second to UW-Green Bay (1:35.65) in a time of 1:35.99. "We started things off with a 200 freestyle relay that earned a solid second place finish with a school-record time," head coach Dave Clark said. "Then we had a lot of personal-best times in the 1000 freestyle and finished with a relay (200 medley) that I thought really swam out of it's mind." The Panthers placed three swimmers in the top ten of the 1000 freestyle, as senior Emily Holcomb took seventh (10:37.81), junior Susan Harmsen ninth (10:43.67) and freshman Kelsey McDonough 10th (10:46.57). All three finished in season-best times. The 200 medley team of senior Julie Olson, freshman Molly Finn, junior Katie Green and sophomore Kristin Skiba took fourth in a time of 1:48.36. "The women's best events will be on the third and fourth day of this meet," Clark said. Day two of the championships takes place Thursday, with preliminaries beginning at 10:30 a.m. and finals starting at 6 p.m.
