After a two-week stay at the Klotsche Center the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming and diving team returns to the road on Saturday (Feb. 5) at UW-Green Bay. The Panthers and Phoenix hit the pool at 3 p.m. in dual meet action.

A Look At UWGB

Milwaukee last saw UW-Green Bay Jan. 21-22, when the Phoenix walked away with the Bill Ritter Invitational title. UWGB sits at 7-0 in dual meets this season, including a 3-0 mark against league teams.

These two in-state league rivals have met 14 times before, with UWGB holding an 11-3 advantage. The Panthers did, however, win last season's meeting, 147-94.

Last Time Out

UWM won nine of the first 10 events, before exhibitioning the final three, to roll to a dual meet win over Western Illinois, 145-82, last Saturday at the Klotsche Center. The Panthers celebrated senior day sending off seniors Cathy Honeyager and Kim Bach in dominating fashion.

Senior Send-Off

Senior Cathy Honeyager did her part to send herself and fellow senior Kim Bach out in style, winning a pair of events in a dual meet win over Western Illinois. She swept the distance events, taking top honors in both the 500 and 1000 free. In the 500, she touched the wall in 5:21.32, while posting a time of 10:52.59 in the 1000. The wins were the first of the season for the Plymouth, Wis. native.

First-Time Winners

In addition to Cathy Honeyager, the Panthers got wins from two more first-timers on Saturday. Sophomore Bridget Fargen and freshman Jessica Kelly each won their first events of the year to help the team to a dual meet victory. Fargen won the 200 free in 2:00.72 and Kelly paced the 100 free in 55.33. The duo also made up half of the first-place of the 200 medley relay.

Sophomore Shadow

With the season sophomore Lindsay Caldwell is having, the other members of the sophomore class have become overshadowed. Sophomore Heather Sawatzki has quitely put together a fine season, which she continued on Saturday. She topped the field in both the 100 butterfly and 400 individual medley. She posted a team-nest time in what was her first 400 IM attempt of the year, while she now has four wins on the season. In addition, she has three second-place finishes to her credit.

Welcome Back

Head coach Dave Clark is glad to have Julie Olson back in the line up after missing the first semester. Since re-joining the team in Florida Olson has won five times in eight tries, while competing in five different events. UWM's record-holder in both backstroke events, she is undefeated in four backstroke events.

2005 League Championships

For the second time in four years Milwaukee will play host to the Horizon League Championships at the Schroeder YMCA in Brown Deer, Wis. The last time UWM played host to the league meet was 2001, also at the Schroeder YMCA. UWM hopes history can repeat itself, as it won its only league title in 2001.

Up Next

UWM gets its first weekend off since returning from Florida next weekend. The Panthers return to action at the Midwest Invitational, Feb. 18-19, in Wheaton, Ill.
