Caldwell Leads Milwaukee On Day One At Ball State Invitational

MUNCIE, Ind. - Senior Lindsay Caldwell won the 50 freestyle in a season-best time and helped two relay teams to second-place finishes on Friday night, putting the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming & diving team in second place after the first of two days at the Doug Coers Invitational on the campus of Ball State.

The host Cardinals lead with 265 points, UWM is second with 179.5, while IUPUI is third with 81.5.

In addition to Caldwell's win in the 50 free, senior Emily Duesler recorded her seventh victory of the season by topping the field in the one-meter diving event.

Caldwell won the 50 for the third-straight time overall, touching the wall in a season-best 24.22. Duesler also recorded a season-best, finishing with 259.80 points.

Caldwell also helped two relay teams to second-place results. She teamed up in the 200 free relay with senior Heidi Goetsch, junior Jess Kelly and freshman Jenny Westfall in a season-best time of 1:40.20. It was junior Briana Fergusson, sophomore Molly Finn and freshman Shannon Berndt with Caldwell in the 400 medley relay, clocking in at 4:02.39.

Finn also had a top finish for UWM, taking third in the 200 IM in 2:12.05.

The two-day meet concludes Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.
