INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming & diving team ran away with six victories in weekend action in a four-team meet hosted by IUPUI Friday and Saturday. The team won three separate duals each day, coming away with two victories over IUPUI (92-21 Friday, 98-15 Saturday), two over Xavier (69-42 Friday, 72-39 Saturday) and two more over Saint Louis (71.5-41.5 Friday, 80-33 Saturday). The team recorded 16 individual victories and two in relays overall in extending their current win streak in duals to 10-straight on the year.

"It was a good weekend for us - we definitely had some good swims and we definitely had some bad swims," UWM head coach Erica Janssen said. "But, overall, I was pretty happy and pleased with how things went."

Sophomore Danielle Wenger paved the way with four wins on the weekend, topping the field in the 1000 freestyle, the 1650 freestyle and both days in the 500 freestyle. Freshman Sarah Wardecke was right with Wenger, sweeping the 50 and 100 freestyle sprints both days. Senior Molly Finn added three wins, junior Kerry Rossow two, sophomore Ellie Gross two and sophomore Kelsey George earned a win in diving as well. Two relay teams also posted winning times in the four-team competition.

"The team really came together this weekend and pulled out some big wins," Janssen said. "That is what was really important. Danielle Wenger, Sarah Wardecke, Molly Finn ... a lot of people came up with some big performances across the board this weekend. And, our freshmen are really stepping up. We expected some of them to come in and make a quick impression and they are doing just that. A lot of our relay teams are made up of sophomores and freshmen, so that is a great sign."

Wenger pulled off arguably the toughest feat - winning the 1000 and 500 free Friday before coming back for wins in the mile and 500 today. Friday, she topped the field in the 1000 in 10:39.12. Junior Jenny Westfall was second in 10:48.78. Wenger then was victorious in the 500 in 5:11.36, with Westfall third in 5:15.23. Saturday, Wenger touched first in the mile in a time of 17:34.16 and in the 500 in 5:15.48. Westfall placed third in the 1650 in a time of 18:13.00.

Wardecke keeps the victories rolling, touching the wall first in the 50 both days - 24.68 Friday and 24.66 Saturday. She also swept the 100 in 52.99 Friday and 53.24 Saturday. Friday, freshman teammate Heidi Niespodzany was third in the 100 in 55.17.

Finn turned in a fine performance on the weekend, winning twice on Friday when she topped the field in the 200 IM in 2:12.01 and in the 100 butterfly in 58.99. Saturday, she won the 200 fly in 2:10.47.

Rossow won her specialties, taking the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.48 Friday and the 200 breast in 2:26.65 Saturday. Gross won the 200 free both days, clocking in at 1:55.50 Friday and 1:56.22 Saturday. Niespodzany was second today in a time of 1:58.78. George won the one-meter competition Saturday with a point total of 218.20.

The relays had a nice showing as well, with two of them coming in first overall. Friday, the 200 free relay team of freshman Danielle Chapman, Gross, sophomore Rachel Rebitski and Niespodzany won in 1:40.36. Saturday, it was Wardecke, Chapman, Gross and Niespodzany finishing the 400 free relay in 3:37.16 for the victory.
