CHICAGO, Ill. - Senior Kerry Rossow and juniors Kelsey George and Danielle Wenger each won two events each to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming & diving to a sweep of a quad meet Saturday afternoon in Chicago. The Panthers earned victories of 185-114 over UIC, 166-133 over North Dakota and 277-22 over Butler University.

Freshman Maggi Beck also posted a win as the team ended the weekend with an impressive 4-0 mark.

"The team really swam well and had a solid day," UWM head coach Erica Janssen said. "Danielle Wenger really had a nice day and Kerry Rossow was great as well. I was also impressed with Maggi Beck's swim in the 400 IM and with how our diving team did. Overall, we had a very good weekend."

Rossow swept the breaststroke events and George topped the field in both diving events. Wenger came through with victories in both distance freestyle races.

Rossow won the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.75 before adding the sweep in the 200 breast in a time of 2:22.21. In addition to Rossow, senior Bailey Nennig helped out in the 200 breast with a second-place time of 2:26.38.

George led a strong UWM showing in the diving events, as the team went one-two on both boards. George accumulated 233.70 points to win on the one-meter, with freshman teammate Aubrey Griffiths taking second with 222.25 points. On the three, George's 270.75 points led the way, with senior Rachel Grimm taking second with 258.90.

 

 

Wenger and senior Jenny Westfall topped the meet in both distance events, placing first and second in both the 500 and 1000 freestyle. Wenger won the 1000 in 10:37.52, with Westfall in second with a time of 10:45.55. In the 500 free, it was Wenger in 5:07.08 and Westfall close behind in a time of 5:15.80.

Beck won the 400 IM in a time of 4:37.66, while sophomore Sarah Wardecke chipped in with a second and two third-place swims. She was second in the 100 butterfly in 58.83 and third in both the 50 free (24.73) and 100 free (52.88).

Junior Kelsey Ogle just missed a victory in the 200 freestyle, as her second-place time of 1:56.93 was touched-out by the winner's 1:56.61 showing.

A road trip up north will test the Panthers against several area opponents with ties to UWSP, as they head to the Stevens Point Border Battle. Teams competing include the University of South Dakota, Minnesota State Mankato, UWM and the host Pointers Nov. 13-14.
