WHEATON, Ill. - Both relay teams and six different members of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming team recorded individual victories to send the team past Wheaton College Friday at Chrouser Pool. The Panthers won, 140-62, to record their eighth-straight win in the series and also to improve to 16-3 all-time against the Thunder.

"It was a team effort for us tonight," UWM head coach Erica Janssen said. "We have been trying to get healthy and working hard and getting results like this shows that. Results like these really give us some momentum going into a big meet tomorrow."

Senior Kerry Rossow, juniors Danielle Wenger and Katelyn Brittain, sophomores Sarah Wardecke and Heidi Niespodzany and freshman Parker Watson all recorded wins to highlight the non-conference dual meet, as UWM won eight of 11 events on the night.

Rossow continued her solid senior campaign with another win in the 100 breaststroke, this time winning in 1:05.58.

Wenger returned to action with a solid contribution, winning the 500 freestyle in 5:09.10. Niespodzany played a huge role, winning the 200 freestyle in 1:57.74 while also swimming with both winning relay teams.

Speaking of, the winning 200 free relay team of senior Bailey Nennig, Wardecke, sophomore Danielle Chapman and Niespodzany touched the wall in 1:38.72.

The 400 medley relay team of Chapman, Wardecke, Niespodzany and junior Rachel Rebitzski claimed the victory in 4:01.31.

Brittain's win in the 100 butterfly (1:01.77) was the first of her UWM career. In addition to both relay teams, Wardecke won the 50 free in 24.56. Watson continues an impressive newcomer campaign with a victory in the 100 free in 54.56.

 

 

Nennig also contributed with second-place showings in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Milwaukee's top finishers in two of the events it did not win was junior Kelsey Ogle in the 100 back (second in 1:01.92) and sophomore Maggie Pease in the 1000 free (second in 11:04.32).

The team is right back at it tomorrow, where it will be tested by two Horizon League foes as well as North Dakota. The Panthers head to Chicago to battle UIC and Butler ay the triangular meet, hitting the pool at 1 p.m.
