Women's Swimmers Quiet Wheaton's Thunder
Nov. 1, 2002 MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming and diving team held off a strong battle from Wheaton College Friday night, collecting a 127-108 victory. The Panthers tallied six first-place finishes in earning the first win on the season. Sarah Walby, Jen Kedinger, Kristin Cefalu, Krystina Herzog and Becky Rubel each collected a win on the evening. The Panthers also took first in the 400 medley relay. Walby took first in the 200 freestyle, finishing in 1:59.85, while Kedinger finished first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:18.19. Kedinger also added a second-place mark in the 1000 freestyle, one of eight second-place finishes on the evening. Kristin Cefalu collected her season's first win in the 200 breaststroke, finishing with a time of 2:28.15. Krystina Herzog and Becky Rubel split the diving victories, with Herzog finishing first on the 1m board and Rubel taking top honors on 3m. Sarah Caldwell added a pair of second-place finishes to the Panther cause, placing second in the 200 IM and the 200 breaststroke. Beth Watt, Nicole Rosinski, Jenn Moore, Erin Blemberg and Hannah Burgard all added a single second-place showing on the evening.
One highlight for the Thunder came in the 100 freestyle, where Wheaton's Aimee Adams set a new Klotsche Center Pool record with a time of 53.51, beating the old mark of 53.56, set last year by UW-Green Bay's Kaye-Lani Laughna.
The Panthers will return to action on Sat., Nov. 9, when they travel to Chicago to face Horizon League member UIC, Evansville and Northern Iowa at 2 p.m. |
