Johnson, Green Lead UWM On Midwest Invite Second Day

WHEATON, Ill. - Junior Jessica Johnson repeated as Midwest Invitational 1650 freestyle champ, and sophomore Katie Green won her second event of the meet, to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming and diving team on the meet's second day, Saturday in Wheaton, Ill. The Panthers featured just six swimmers, but still took fifth in the 11-team field. Johnson touched the wall in the 1650 free in 18:57.69 to win the event for the second year in a row. She was followed in the standings by junior Erin Faust in third with a time of 19:34.84. Johnson was also third in the 200 free with her time of 2:04.46. Freshman Martha Boehm was fourth in 2:11.11 and fellow frosh Hannah Gottinger took 13th in 2:24.95. After winning the 200 individual medley on Friday, Green came back to top the field in the 200 backstroke with her time of 1:00.83. She also posted a time of 1:00.85 in the 100 butterfly to take second. Freshman Jenny Jahner took 14th in 1:10.61. In the 50 free, Boehm was fourth in 26.45, while Jahner finished 16th in 28.61. Milwaukee took third in both relay events on the day, led by Green, Jahner and Boehm. The trio was joined by Faust in the 200 medley relay to post a time of 2:00.77. Johnson swam with her three teammates in the 400 free relay, as they finished in 3:54.78. The Panthers are in action next when they host the 2005 Horizon League Championships, Feb. 23-26, at the Schroeder YMCA in Brown Deer, Wis.
