WHEATON, Ill. - Sophomore Katie Green won the 200 individual medley to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming and diving team on the first day of the Midwest Invitational, Friday in Wheaton, Ill. The Panthers sit fifth after the first day, despite having just six swimmers in attendance.

Green touched the wall in the 200 IM in 2:17.45 for the win. Milwaukee's deepest event proved to be the 500 freestyle, where junior Jessica Johnson finished third to lead three Panthers in the finals. She finished in 5:29.25, while junior Erin Faust also competed in the championship heat, taking fifth in 5:44.88. Freshman Hannah Gottinger took 10th in the event with her time of 6:15.83.

Freshmen Martha Boehm and Jenny Jahner also made finals appearances for Milwaukee. Boehm took sixth in the 100 free in 58.28 and Jahner was ninth in the 200 butterfly in 2:44.54.

UWM also posted a pair of good finishes in relays, taking third in the 800 free relay and fourth in the 400 medley relay. Green, Faust, Boehm and Gottinger combined on a time of 8:49.75 in the 800 free. In the 400 medley relay, it was Green, Faust, Boehm and Jahner completing the distance in 4:31.18.

Day two of the Midwest Invitational gets underway Saturday at 9 a.m. with a session of preliminaries. The day two finals kick off at 3:30 p.m.
