Walby Takes Third In Time Trial

Minnesota native finishes third in 100 meter freestyle

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Sarah Walby finished third in the 100 meter freestyle Monday morning at the Time Trial 100s at the International Swimming Hall of Fame pool in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Walby was the top UWM finisher in the event that saw four other swimmers finish in the top 16 and another three in the top 20.

Walby finished in 1:06.09, good for third behind UIC's Christine Hare and Aisha Williams. Walby was followed by Sarah Caldwell in sixth with a time of 1:06.48 and Natalie Oettinger in 10th in 1:07.81. Jessica Johnson finished 11th in 1:07.83, while Patricia Frank was 14th in 1:08.39. Three others, Samantha Skorlinski, Jenny Behr and Kristin Lewis, finished 17th, 19th and 20th, respectively.

Amanda Schmitt led three Panthers in the 400 meter freestyle time trial with a seventh-place finish. Schmitt finished in 5:00.70, just ahead of Jen Kedinger in eighth place in 5:01.19. Cathy Honeyager was ninth in the event with a time of 5:10.57.

The Panthers return from their Florida training trip on Saturday and will have two weeks to prepare for the Bill Ritter Invitational. The invitational will begin with the diving competition at 11 a.m. on Jan. 24 at Schroeder YMCA in Brown Deer, Wis. The swimming competition will begin later that evening at the Klotsche Center Pool.
