Jan. 1, 2005
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming team won five of six relay events to win the 2004 Ed Kennedy Relays Friday afternoon in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Competing against four Division I teams, the Panthers finished with 228 points in the win. "If you are going to win 10-of-12 events (including the men)," head coach Dave Clark said, "all of our swimmers have to swim very well." Milwaukee was victorious in the first four events run at the meet. The Panthers picked up wins in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:07.85 and 200 freestyle relay in 1:57.14. In the 150 butterfly relay, UWM swam a first-place time of 1:36.06 before winning the 150 backstroke relay in 1:38.76. The only blemish on the Panthers' record was a fifth-place showing in the 150 breaststroke relay of 2:02.32. Milwaukee bounced back to win the 400 free relay in 4:16.18. "If you combine all of the divisions (competing)," Clark said, "we still won most of the events. That is something that we have not done in the past." Following UWM in second was Duquesne University with 206 points and the University of Northern Colorado with 190. Valparaiso University scored 184 points for fourth and Eastern Illinois University tallied 182 to round out the field. The team's winter trip continues through Jan. 11, with the Time Trial 100s on Thursday, Jan. 6.
