Panthers To Take On Top Regional Foes In 20095/20/2009 - Seven Big Ten teams and national powerhouse Notre Dame highlight the 2009 University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer schedule, announced today by head coach Michael Moynihan. The Panthers will play seven of their 11 non-league games against members of the Big Ten Conference, with matches against Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Purdue, Northwestern, Michigan and Iowa. As if that wasn't enough, Milwaukee will take on an eighth Big Ten team as part of its preseason schedule, facing Michigan State Aug. 16 in East Lansing, Mich. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team wrapped its 2009 spring season last weekend, falling at Marquette in two overtimes, 3-2. The Panthers finished the practice season 5-2-1, scoring wins over Wisconsin, Purdue, Northwestern, DePaul and Loyola. They also played a 45-minute match with Central Michigan to a 0-0 draw and dropped a 2-0 decision to Dayton. "I was happy with all of our performances, really," head coach Michael Moynihan said. "We played some pretty challenging competition. I felt like for large stretches of every game, we were the better side. I think that gives the players an awful lot of confidence going into the fall." Kera Modell and Taylor Zyvoloski, both incoming freshmen on the soccer teams at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, have earned the Sarah Hegarty Award for their respective FC Milwaukee club teams, the organization announced last week. Modell, who plays for the U18 Girls Blue team and Zyvoloski, a member of the U18 Boys Academy team, were honored Friday. It is the clubs only individual award and defines the values of FC Milwaukee and the legacy of Sarah Hegarty - talent, determination and loyalty on and off the field. Read Full Release |
