Trio Named To Academic All-League TeamMILWAUKEE, Wis. (Dec. 15, 2005) - Three members of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team were named to the Academic All-Horizon League team, the league office announced today. Seniors Janice McGann and Katie Campion and sophomore Ginny Graczyk were each named to the team for the first time in their careers. McGann and Graczyk each started all 22 games this season as central defenders, anchoring a defense that tied a school record with 13 shutouts and posted the second-best goals against average in school history (0.60). The squad also finished 11th in the nation with a shutout percentage of 0.59 (13 SO/22 games) and 17th in GAA. McGann earned all-league second team honors this season and collected a pair of assists on the year. Graczyk was an all-league first team honoree and finished with five points on a game-winning goal and three assists. In the classroom, McGann is an advertising major and boasts a 3.694 grade point average. Meanwhile, Graczyk is a junior academically and carries a 3.874 GPA as both a health sciences and a psychology major. She was also named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District First team earlier this year, while Campion was named to the second team. Campion finished tied for third on the team in scoring with 11 points on four goals and three assists. Two of those goals were game-winners, as she became the first Panther in four years to score game-winners in back-to-back games. She accomplished the feat Sept. 23 at UW-Green Bay and Sept. 25 in overtime vs. Illinois State. Campion was then named Horizon League Player of the Week and to the Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week. An elementary education major, the Schaumburg, Ill., native has maintained a 3.694 GPA. Graczyk headlines a list of players returning next season from this year's 12-5-5 squad. UWM won its sixth-straight league regular season title, fourth league tourney and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in team history. Also returning are first team honorees freshman goalkeeper Erin Kane and freshman midfielder Sarah Teegarden. Another piece of the vaunted Panther defense, second-team honoree sophomore Amanda Winn will also be back for Milwaukee.
