Indianapolis - For the second time in as many seasons, the UWM women's soccer team played Wright State to a tie in the MCC Tournament. Unfortunately for the Panthers, the Raiders advanced after a shootout round for the second consecutive year.

After 90 minutes of regulation and 60 minutes of overtime, the game remained tied at 1-1, forcing the shootout round. UWM, seeded third in the tournament, connected on their first and third shootout, while No. 1 Wright State converted their first, second, fourth and fifth shootout.

"It's a heartbreaking way to end the season," said UWM coach Michael Moynihan.

By advancing past UWM, Wright State earns the MCC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

"Our players did everything we asked them to, said Moynihan. "We played well enough today to be in the NCAA Tournament. That's what makes it so frustrating."

Wright State began the scoring after they converted on a corner kick in the first half.

Junior Fanta Cooper scored her fourth goal of the tournament in the 72nd minute to force overtime.

"We had so many flurries inside the box," said Moynihan, "so many opportunities to score."

The Panthers outshot Wright State, 17-8, in the game.

UWM ends the season with an 11-8-3 record.

The game marked the end of the careers of seniors Tammy Sobaski, Joanne Wilde, Michelle Alioto, Liz Ulicki and Jody Stafne.
