Steuer Named U.S. Army Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

Panther junior scored game-winning goal in league quarterfinals

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Nov. 6, 2007) - Junior Beth Steuer of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team has been named the U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today.

This is the first weekly award of Steuer's career, while she is the second Panther to ever win the honor, which is in its second year of existence.

Steuer scored the game-winning goal in Milwaukee's quarterfinal win over Cleveland State last weekend. Her goal in the 15th minute stood as the match's only score as the Panthers were the 1-0 victors. She finished with five shots in the game in helping UWM to the semifinals of the league tournament for the 13th time in its 14 years in the league.

In the classroom, Steuer boasts a 3.932 grade point average as a psychology major. She is regularly honored on the Dean's List and Horizon League Academic Honor Roll. She is also a UWM Scholar-Athlete with Distinction.

Steuer and the Panthers host the remainder of the Horizon League Tournament this weekend as the top seed. Milwaukee will play Butler Friday at 7 p.m. for a berth in the title game Sunday at noon. Loyola and Wright State face off the other semifinal match, set to start at 4 p.m. at Engelmann Field.
