Milwaukee Set To Host Horizon League Tournament

Panthers will host semifinals and finals this weekend

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Nov. 5, 2007) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women;s soccer team is prepared to host the 2007 Horizon League Championship this weekend at Engelmann Field.

The Panthers will host the semifinal round Friday, Nov. 9, and the championship game on Sunday. No. 1 seed UWM is taking on fourth-seeded Butler in Friday's second semifinal contest at 7 p.m., following No. 2 Loyola vs. No. 3 Wright State at 4 p.m.

The winners of those two games will meet at noon on Sunday in the title match.

Ticket prices for all tournament games at Engelmann Field are $5 for adults and $3 for children under 17 and senior citizens. Students of any league school are admitted free.

Milwaukee claimed the league's top seed after winning an eighth-straight Horizon League regular season championship with a 7-0-1 regular season record. The Panthers then topped No. 8 Cleveland State in the quarterfinals last Saturday to advance to the semifinals. Butler, meanwhile, defeated No. 5 Valparaiso, 2-0, to make it to the semifinals.

The other semifinal match features teams that won decisive quarterfinal matches. Loyola beat No. 7 Green Bay 5-0 and Wright State routed No. 6 Detroit, 6-0. The Ramblers and Raiders met in the regular season finale with Loyola scoring the 2-0 victory to clinch the tourney's second seed.

Loyola is the defending league tournament champion, while the Panthers are in search of their league-record fifth tourney title.
