MILWAUKEE -- As the regular-season league champions, No. 1 UWM (13-4, 6-0) receives a first-round bye in the Horizon League Tournament and will play in the semifinal round on Fri., Nov. 9, at 10 a.m. cst. The Panthers will play the winner of the No. 4 Detroit vs. No. 5 Green Bay game, held on Thurs., Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. cst.

The Panthers enter the post season after losing to city-rival Marquette, 3-0, on Thursday at Engelmann Field.

Fourth-seeded Detroit (7-10, 3-3 Horizon) heads into the game against Green Bay after beating Youngstown State, 7-0, on Sunday at home. Senior forward Gwen Kilfoy recorded a hat trick and junior forward Tanya Tiselj added two goals and two assists, while the Titans did not give a single shot.

Fifth-seeded Green Bay (4-11, 3-3) will take on the Titans after losing to Iowa, 6-2, in Iowa City on Oct. 28. Kristen Lau scored the equalizer in the 24th minute to make it 1-1, but the Phoenix surrendered five unanswered goals. Lynn Goetzinger added the final goal for Green Bay.

During the regular season, the Panthers defeated both teams with a 2-0 scoring. The last time UWM lost to Green Bay was in 1999 (1-0), while 1998 was the last time Detroit beat the Panthers (4-2).

UWM has made it to the tournament championship game the past two years. The Panthers fell last season to Wright State, 1-0, while Wright State also advanced past UWM in 1999 on penalty kicks (4-2) after a scoreless regulation. In 1998, Wright State advanced past Milwaukee in the first round on penalty kicks (5-3) after a scoreless regulation.

UWM could meet No. 3 Wright State in the championship game if the Raiders beat No. 6 Loyola in the quarterfinal, and then defeat the winner of the #2 Butler vs. #7 Youngstown State game in the semifinal game.

UWM Recap

* UWM gave up two first half goals and one in the 87th minute, allowing Marquette to take the 3-0 victory at Engelmann Field. That snapped UWM's four-game shutout streak, dating back to Oct. 19.

UWM (13-4, 6-0 Horizon League) Game Notes

* Following its 4-0 win over Loyola on Oct. 25 to end the regular league season, UWM became just the second team in league history to not allow a single goal during league play. The Panthers also closed out their second-straight perfect league regular season, just the second team to ever accomplish the feat. Notre Dame was the first team in both cases, posting undefeated seasons from 1992-94, and not giving up any goals in 1993.

* Amy Oechsner leads UWM in scoring with 20 points, tallying seven goals and six assists. Erin Blaedow is second on the team with 15 points (7g, 1a), while Evann Franklin is third with 14 points (6g, 2a).

* UWM has outscored its opponents, 36-13, and has outshot them, 249-166. In league games, the Panthers have outscored opponents 16-0, and outshot them, 106-32.

* Sophomore goalkeeper Kerri St. Aubin has started every game for UWM so far this season, posting a 13-4 record and 0.73 GAA. St. Aubin, who has 54 saves on the season, has split time with junior Mary Duffy, who has a 0.91 GAA in 295 minutes of action. UWM has recorded 11 shutouts on the season, with St. Aubin recording four, and both keepers splitting time in seven.

* UWM leads the league in shots, averaging 14.65 per game. UWM also leads the Horizon League in goals allowed with 0.76 per game and is tied for the lead in shutouts with 11.

* Amy Oechsner is third in the Horizon League in shots (2.88/game), while Erin Blaedow is tied for sixth (2.29/game). Oechsner is tied for seventh in the league in points (20), while both she and Blaedow are tied for seventh in goals (7). Julie Ruma is tied for fifth in assists (6).

Detroit (7-10, 3-3) Game Notes

No Overtime

With just the Horizon League Tournament remaining, the 2001 Panthers could be the first Milwaukee squad to not go into overtime in a single game all season since 1984. In 1984, UWM's inaugural season of women's varsity soccer, the Panthers went 5-6, and did not face overtime in any game.

In The League

UWM's six league wins this season all have come as shutouts. UWM has outscored league opponents 16-0, heading into the league tournament. Last season, the Panthers were undefeated in the league and outscored their opponents, 14-4, while tallying three shutouts.

Nine Straight

After starting the season 0-2, the Panthers rattled off nine-straight wins to tie a school record. The last time Milwaukee won nine consecutive was in 1994, when UWM finished 12-7-1. Milwaukee's run for 10 straight was ended with a 2-1 loss against Northwestern at home on Oct. 5. UWM could break the school record for most wins in a season when it plays its semifinal match on Nov. 9. Milwaukee's 13 wins is currently tied with the school record set in 1997

Moynihan Captures 50

UWM coach Michael Moynihan captured his 50th career win on Sept. 28 when the Panthers defeated Illinois State, 2-1. Moynihan's milestone came in his fifth year as head coach of the Panthers, and now he now holds a 58-28-11 record overall. His career winning percentage of .661 is best in the program's history. Last season, he guided UWM to its first-ever regular-season league championship and was named MCC Coach of the Year for the second time in his career. Moynihan also won the coaching award in 1997, his first year as head coach, when his team won the league tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time ever in program's history.

A Milwaukee-area native, Moynihan graduated from Wisconsin where he was a four-year letterwinner on the Badgers soccer team.
