Graczyk, Campion Named Academic All-DistrictMILWAUKEE, Wis. (Nov. 3, 2005) - Sophomore Ginny Graczyk and senior Katie Campion of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team were named to Academic All-District Teams by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced today. Graczyk was named to the academic all-district first team, while Campion was honored on the second team. Graczyk was named to the Horizon League All-League First Team Wednesday after playing every minute of every game this season. She anchors a Panther defense that leads the league in goals against average and shutouts and has scored four points this season on a game-winning goal and two assists. Graczyk is majoring in health sciences and psychology and has a 3.874 grade point average after earning Dean's List honors after both semesters last year. Campion is second on the team in scoring, tallying 10 points this season. She scored four goals and two assists in 15 games this season, starting nine times. In September, Campion became the first Pamther in four years to score the game-winning goal in back-to-back matches, doing so Sept. 23 at UW-Green Bay and against Illinois State Sept. 25. She was then named league player of the week and to the Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week. An elementary education major, she maintains a 3.694 GPA. The Panthers had two of the four players recognized from the Horizon League. UW-Green Bay's Stephanie Gross joined Graczyk on the District 5 first team, while Allison Epple from Detroit was named to the second team in District 4. Academic All-District First Team members are eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America teams. UWM is in Green Bay for the 2005 Horizon League Tournament. The top-seeded Panthers open the tourney today against No. 8 Cleveland State. The winner moves on to the semifinals against the winner of No. 4 Wright State/No. 5 Butler Friday at 4:30 p.m. while the championship game is scheduled for Sunday at noon.
