Hagen Named Horizon League Player Of The Week
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Oct. 27, 2008) - Freshman Sarah Hagen of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week for Oct. 27, the league office announced today. A game time and opponent have also been announced for the Panthers' home Horizon League Championship quarterfinal match Sunday, Nov. 2. As the No. 2 seed, Milwaukee will host No. 7 Green Bay at Englemann Field with a 1 p.m. kick off. This week marks the third-straight week a Panther has taken the league's honor and the third time Hagen has been the recipient this season. She previously earned the award Aug. 25 and Oct. 13. Senior Sarah Teegarden was the league's player of the week Oct. 20, while junior Kate Megna is another UWM honoree from this season (Sept. 22). Hagen picked up eight points in two games last weekend, helping Milwaukee to a 2-0 record and the Horizon League regular season co-championship. The weekend got started with a one-goal, two assist performance in a 3-0 win over Detroit. The four points pushed her season total to 40, breaking the school single-season record. Then, Sunday, Hagen scored her 19th and 20th goals of the season in a 3-1 Panther win over Valparaiso. She tied the Horizon League's freshman goal-scoring record and pulled within one of the league's single-season goal mark. Hagen and the Panthers are looking for their first league tournament championship since 2005 when they open the 2008 league championship this weekend at home. For the first time since 1999, UWM will not be the No. 1 seed. Milwaukee hosts Green Bay Sunday, with the winner advancing to a semifinal appearance with the winner of No. 3 Wright State and No. 6 Cleveland State. The semifinals are scheduled for Nov. 7 at the site of the highest remaining seed. The championship game then follows Nov. 9.
