Hagen Named Horizon League Player Of The Week

Freshman earns second honor of the season with four-goal week

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Oct. 13, 2008) - Freshman Sarah Hagen of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week for Oct. 13, the league office announced today.

The league honor is her second of the season and the Panthers' third this season. Hagen earned the award after the first week of the season Aug. 25, while junior Kate Megna was UWM's last recipient Sept. 22.

Hagen scored two goals in each of Milwaukee's two games last week, bringing her total to a school record-tying 16 for the season. Sunday's two scores, including the game-winner, came in a 3-0 win at Youngstown State and tied the school record for goals in a season that Lisa Krzykowski set in 1995 and tied in 1997. Meanwhile, the game-winner was her school-record sixth of the season.

She picked up two goals at Cleveland State on Friday in a 7-0 rout. Her first goal in that match broke the school single-season freshman record she had tied five days earlier.

In addition to her school records, Hagen's 16 goals are also tied for the most in the nation with Michigan State's Laura Heyboer.

The 24th-ranked Panthers (12-2-2) return to action this weekend with a first-place showdown against Butler Friday at Engelmann Field. UWM, Butler and Loyola each sit atop the league standings with identical 4-1 records.
