MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Oct. 7, 2009) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team will wear special pink uniforms for its Oct. 18 match with Wright State at Engelmann Field.

The game is a part of the second annual Pink Out event the team co-hosts with the Panther volleyball team. The weekend includes volleyball's match with Loyola on Saturday and the Panthers' Sunday match with WSU.

The Pink Out is a joint venture between the UWM community and the athletics department to promote breast cancer awareness, celebrate the survivors and support progress toward a cure. The idea builds off of the highly-successful "Think Pink" promotion involving women's basketball in each of the last two years.

"It's important to increase awareness because breast cancer effects so many people," Milwaukee head coach Michael Moynihan said. "Anything we can do to help is worth it."

The special kits are white with pink lettering and were donated by Puma for the game. After the match, the uniforms will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to UWM's Norris Health Center, which will dedicate the funds to women's health issues.

"We want to thank Puma and Steffen's (Soccer Supply) for their involvement and support in securing these kits," Moynihan said.

More information on the Pink Out event, including details about pre-game clinics and other involved festivities will be announced next week.
