UWM Women's Soccer Signs Two More Recruits
July 27, 2000 MILWAUKEE- The UWM women's soccer team added speed to its 2000 recruiting class with the addition of two more signees, one who comes from across the Atlantic. Evann Franklin (Milwaukee, Wis./John Marshall) and Lisa Bengtsson (Uppsala, Sweden) will be added to the roster for the 2000 season. Evann Franklin was a three-time All-Conference selection as a midfielder. As a senior she was an All-State selection in Wisconsin and was named the Milwaukee City Conference Player of the Year. Franklin currently plays club for Brookfield U-18 Select. "It's always great when we get a local standout. We're excited to have Evann as a Panther. She will be a great addition to our program and will be an inspiration to other City Conference soccer players who aspire to play Division 1 soccer. She is an excellent athlete, an outstanding student, and a fine example for others to follow," states UWM head coach, Mike Moynihan. Lisa Bengtsson comes to UWM from Uppsala, Sweden. She plays both forward and midfielder for her club, Danmark IF. She has 11 years of club soccer experience and looks to bring her talents to American soil. Lisa is the first international student/athlete in the women's soccer program at UWM.
"Lisa will bring us an international flavor that we have never had at UWM. She is explosive on the wing and should help our attack. She comes from a solid soccer background in Sweden and we expect her to contribute with her game experience right away," said Moynihan.
