Women's Soccer Tabs St. Clair As Assistant

UCSB assistant replaces Montgomery on UWM staff

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (April 10, 2006) - Kristen St. Clair has joined the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer coaching staff as an assistant coach, head coach Michael Moynihan announced today.

St. Clair, who most recently served as an assistant at UC-Santa Barbara, replaces Crystalin Montgomery, who resigned from her position in February to attend medical school.

"We are excited to bring Kristen into the Panther family and we can't wait to get started working with her. She is determined, energetic and extremely professional," Moynihan said. "UWM women's soccer is well-established on the national scene and Kristen will help take our program to even higher levels."

"It's an honor to be joining a staff and a program that has truly proven itself on the national level. Every year it continues to make it's mark nationally and turns out top student-athletes both on and off the field," St. Clair said. "Mike and David (Nikolic) have done a great job building a fantastic program with a rich history in the area. I look forward to helping UWM continue its success and move to the next level."

St. Clair served as goalkeeper coach with the Gauchos in 2004 and 2005. In her first season, the team posted 10 shutouts, saw its save percentage raised above 80 percent and went 13-6-2. Prior to her time at UCSB, St. Clair served as goalkeeper coach at her alma mater, Westmont College in 2003. The Warriors won the NAIA National Championship that season and set a school record with a 0.48 goals against average.

"Her command of goalkeeping is exceptional and I am certain that our goalkeepers will blossom under her tutelage. We are excited to have a full time goalkeeper coach for the first time," Moynihan said. "She is much more than goalkeeper coach though, and her soccer knowledge is well-rounded."

St. Clair was a four-year All-American at Westmont from 1997-2002. She posted a 0.62 goals against average in almost 7,000 minutes for her career, leading the Warriors to the 1999 National Championship. Westmont made the NAIA Tournament in all four of her years, also reaching the Final Four in 1997 and going 8-1-2 in tourney games.

A four-year letterwinner with the Panthers from 1995-98, Montgomery joined the staff as an undergraduate assistant in 1999 and a volunteer in 2000. After one season at the University of Houston, she re-joined the staff in 2002 and was made a full time assistant in 2003. Montgomery played on the program's first NCAA Tournament team in 1997 and helped Milwaukee reach the tourney in 2002 and again last season.

"C-lin has been one of the major influences in this program's history and she will be missed greatly. She was a player, a captain and a coach for us and in every capacity she has represented UWM with class," Moynihan said. "Our program aspires to teach our student-athletes about life and about soccer, and C-lin is a person of great character that has guided others with her maturity and insight both on and off the field. She will always have a home here in Milwaukee and we wish her well as she enters medical school."
