UWM Women's Soccer Announces 2000 Recruiting Class
Feb. 28, 2000 MILWAUKEE- The UWM women's soccer team has added three players to its roster, according to coach Michael Moynihan. Erin Shaughnessy (Long Lake, Minn./Orono), Alexa Torres (Cottage Grove, Wis./Cottage Grove) and Jeney Walter (Racine, Wis./Park) will all be added to the roster for the 2000 season. Shaughnessy is a forward who plays with the Blackhawks, one of Minnesota's top club teams. "She is small, but very fast and very active," said Moynihan. "She has a high work rate and like to be involved around the ball. She makes things happen because she is so involved." Torres graduated last month from high school and is currently training overseas with the Venezuela national team. An ODP regional pool selection last year, she will play central defender or defensive midfielder for UWM. "Alexa brings in a good level of experience to our team," said Moynihan. "She is skillful and reads the game well. She plays composed under pressure, and she will have a big impact here." Walter is an outside defender who also plays with the Milwaukee Kicker Nationals club team.
"She is extremely fast and a very tenacious defender," said Moynihan. "She has tons of athletic potential, and we look for her to compete for playing time right away. She has a great attitude and will keep getting better and better. She is the fastest player in the Kicker Nationals program.
