Krueger Becomes Third Panther To Go To WUSA

MILWAUKEE-Former UWM women's soccer player Josha Krueger was recently invited to attend preseason-training for the Boston Breakers of the WUSA beginning March 1. She becomes the third UWM women's soccer player invited to participate in preseason camp for the new professional women's soccer league. Krueger left her native Chicago today for Boston, as she joins the rest of the Breaker hopefuls for a few days of training before heading to the WUSA preseason camp in North Carolina. Boston is coached by former US Women's National Team Assistant Jay Hoffmann A member of the team from 1994-1997, Krueger played every minute of every game throughout her entire career. During her career, she was named to the All-Great Lakes Region second and third teams, the MCC All-Conference first team, MCC All-Tournament team, and the MCC All-Newcomer team. As UWM's starting sweeper, she contributed to a 0.52 GAA in 1997 while ending her career with 12 goals, 6 assists. She has also played for the Chicago Cobras of the W-League the past five years, helping win the league title this past summer. Krueger joins former standout Lisa Krzykowski and senior Fanta Cooper as Panthers recognized by the WUSA. Krzykowski was selected to the Atlanta Beat in the league's original draft in December, while Cooper was picked up by the Carolina Courage in the supplemental draft in January. Two Panthers Named To Iowa's All-Tourney Team MILWAUKEE--Sophomore midfielder Katie Kubacki and junior forward Kristine Coburn were named to the Hawkeye Sevens All-Tournament team at the University of Iowa this past weekend. UWM competed in the 7v7 indoor tournament at the university in Iowa City, Iowa on Saturday. The Panthers utilized the tournament as an off-season tune-up. Two UWM squads competed against eight other universities, club, and ODP teams. One UWM team advanced to the semifinals of the tournament, losing to Iowa State, 2-1, in penalty kicks. Milwaukee's second team made it to the quarterfinals and lost to Illinois, 4-2.
Coburn tallied two goals on the tournament, including the game-winner in overtime to send her team to the semifinals.
