MILWAUKEE - UWM women's soccer coach Michael Moynihan received a finishing touch to his 2002 roster with the signing of Canadian National Team player Janice McGann last week. She becomes the 11th recruit for next season, joining Molly Schneider, Kelly Peterson, Stacey Faude, Elicia Scaife, Rebecca Englund, Molly Duffy, Andrea Kramer, Maria Iaizzo, Andrea Gebelein and Brenda Neigbauer.

McGann (Oakville, Ontario /Trafalgar H.S.) has played for the Canadian National Team for two years and is currently on the U-19 squad. She will join the Panthers in August following this summer's World Championships, which Canada will host. A midfielder/central defender, McGann also plays club soccer for the Burlington Impact and helped the team to the Ontario League Cup finals.

"When I first saw Janice at the Burlington Showcase, she immediately stood out to me as the best player at the event," Moynihan said. "You immediately notice her presence in the game. She is a ball winner with a fantastic work rate, yet she is also very skilled and makes excellent runs forward with the ball. She will make an immediate impact in the Horizon League, and her national team experience will be invaluable to our program as we continue to move further into the company of our nation's elite teams."

The Canadian chose UWM over visits at Marquette and Dartmouth, which the Panthers played in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season.

"Going in (to UWM) before my visit, I didn't expected to end up there," McGann said of her decision to attend Milwaukee. "But as soon as I left, I said to myself, 'I'm going there', because I loved it!"
