MILWAUKEE-- UWM's Fanta Cooper and Katie Waltenberger, both senior defenders on the women's soccer team this past fall, have been selected to participate in the fourth annual Garrett Game on Sunday, Feb. 4.

The game is to be played at the Bradley Center in downtown Milwaukee as part of a double header with the Milwaukee Wave-Wichita Wings game of the NPSL. The duo will join 12 college seniors, including four others from the Wisconsin Division I schools, in taking on members of the United States National Team. Game time is set for 4 p.m.

The Garrett Game was established as a fund raiser for the Garrett J. Hamm Memorial Fund by Children's Hospital of Wisconsin to increase funding for bone marrow transplants and research. Garrett Hamm, the brother of women's soccer superstar Mia Hamm, suffered from aplastic anemia before his passing in 1997. Tickets for both games can be purchased at the Milwaukee Wave Ticket Office at 414-967-8500 and all TicketMaster locations.

Cooper, a defender, was named to the all-region team this past fall and was recently selected to the Umbro Select All-Star team. She was named Co-MCC Player of the Year for the second consecutive year, while earning MCC All-Tournament recognition and was twice named the conference's Player of the Week.

Also a defender for the Panthers, Waltenberger was named to the MCC All-Tournament team after helping UW-Milwaukee advance to the conference championship game. Waltenberger made a smooth transition to defense after playing an attacking role throughout her collegiate career. Waltenberger was named to the all-conference second team her junior year following a 10-point season performance.
