October 27, 1998
CHICAGO - The UWM women's soccer team continued its strong play by knocking off conference leading Loyola, 2-0, Tuesday night in Chicago. The Panthers scored two goals within the first two minutes of the game to take the win.
"We didn't really give them any good chances," said UWM head coach Michael Moynihan. "We played well and controlled the ball, and we jumped on them early."
Katie Waltenberger scored the Panthers first goal just 26 seconds into the game off a pass from Michelle Koziczkowski. Mara Thompson scored UWM's other goal just over a minute later.
UWM only allowed four shots the entire game despite missing two key defenders in Joy Provan and Joanne Wilde. Panther goalkeeper Kathy Hoverman recorded her seventh shutout of the season.
Moynihan said, "We feel good about how were playing, and our confidence is there. We just want to keep building this momentum into the MCC tournament."
