Panthers and Badgers Play to Scoreless Tie
October 25, 1998
MILWAUKEE - The UWM women's soccer team and Wisconsin battled to a scoreless tie on Sunday at Engelmann Field.
It was the second consecutive season that the Badgers and Panthers played to a scoreless tie and the third tie in four years.
The Panther defense, led by senior Jaime May, shut down the potent Badger attack, limiting Wisconsin to only 10 shots in the double overtime contest.
"It was a good game all around," said UWM head coach Michael Moynihan. "Jamie May did awesome in the back in only her second game there. Everybody in the back rose to the occassion."
The first half was played in the middle of the field with UWM only getting off three shots and Wisconsin only taking two. For the game, the Badgers edged out the Panthers in shots, 10-8.
"We've had better chances the last two years against Wisconsin," said Moynihan. "We need to find a way to get over the hump."
UWM goalkeeper Kathy Hoverman tallied four saves for the Panthers.
The tie moves UWM to 8-5-2 and the Badgers to 9-5-2 on the season. UWM plays at Loyola Chicago on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. in its final conference contest of the season. The Panthers wrap up the regular season when they play host to Northern Illinois on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 2 p.m.
