Milwaukee - The UWM women's soccer team claimed the UWM PrimeCo Classic crown on Sunday after knocking off Wright State, 2-0, in the final game of the tournament. The game also counted as UWM's first conference game of the year. The win moves UWM to 4-3 on the season.

Stefanie Hosni (Waukesha, Wis.-Catholic Memorial) was named tournament MVP after assisting on UWM's only goal against Weber State on Saturday, and scoring the Panthers' second goal against the Raiders.

Said UWM head coach Michael Moynihan of the game, "Last year we had some extremely good games early, and at conference play we had some let downs. One of our goals at the beginning of the season was to get a bye in the first round of the conference tournament. This was a step in the right direction."

UWM jumped out to an early lead against Wright State after Erin Blaedow (West Allis, Wis.-Central) headed in a Lindsey Munkwitz (Waukesha, Wis.-Catholic Memorial) corner kick in the third minute.

"She's one of our best players in the air," said Moynihan. "It was a combination of the play and her ability to get open that got us the goal."

Hosni's goal was icing on the cake as she chipped in an open-net goal with just 38 seconds remaining in the game.

"It was great awareness on her part," said Moynihan of Hosni's goal. "She saw that the keeper was out and she stayed composed on an opponent's mistake."

Other Panthers joining Hosni on the UWM PrimeCo Classic All-Tournament Team were Fanta Cooper (Oklahoma City, Okla.-Westmoore), Kristin Munyon (Omaha, Neb.-Burke), Liz Ulicki (Mukwonago, Wis.-Mukwonago), who tallied two shutouts in the tournament, and Munkwitz, who also scored UWM's lone goal on Saturday.

The Panthers play host to cross-town rival Marquette on Tuesday at Uihlien Soccer Park. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
