MILWAUKEE-Rolling through its second victory of the weekend, the UWM women's soccer team roughed up the Western Michigan Broncos with a 3-0 victory on Sunday at the Central Michigan Invitational. The Panthers claimed the tournament trophy in convincing fashion, and now stand with a 3-3 record on the season.

Outshooting the Broncos 22-5, the Panthers were led by goals from seniors Lindsey Munkwitz and Danni Alberg in the first half. Munkwitz opened the Panthers' scoring in the 17th minute with a rebound shot from a cross. Midfielder Danni Alberg added to the Panthers' attack when she received the ball with her back facing the goal. Alberg turned, faked out a couple of defenders, and shot from 25-yards out to take a 2-0 lead to halftime.

"We dominated them in the first half, playing the ball around and creating many chances," said UWM coach Michael Moynihan. "Everybody got in (the game), getting time to contribute. We're getting numbers forward and into dangerous positions. We looked really good."

Lisa Bengtsson, the Panthers' forward from Sweden, continued her scoring pace with a goal in the 74th minute of the second half. The freshman finished past the Broncos' goalkeeper on a rebound, after Alberg initially took the shot off a through ball. Bengtsson is tied for leading UWM in scoring with three goals.

The Panthers' defense, led by seniors Katie Waltenberger and Fanta Cooper, proved unbreakable as they helped sophomore goalkeeper Mary Duffy pitch her second shutout of the season.

"It was good, all-around playing. Our spirits are really high because we're finally getting the results and wins we need," said Moynihan.

Four Panthers were selected to the All-Tournament team: Seniors Fanta Cooper and Lindsey Munkwitz, junior midfielder Erin Blaedow, and freshman Lisa Bengtsson.
