MILWAUKEE - Freshman Amy Oechsner (Hartford, Wis.-Hartford) led the Panthers to a 2-1 victory over Evansville Sunday by scoring UWM’s first goal and assisting on the other. UWM moves to 2-1 on the season after back-to-back victories over DePaul and Evansville, a NCAA Tournament team last year.

Stefanie Hosni (Waukesha, Wis.-Catholic Memorial) fed Oechsner the ball on her goal in the 30th minute giving UWM a 1-0 lead at halftime.

The Purple Aces game out firing, scoring just 1:34 into the second half. But the Panthers bounced back scoring just nine minutes later to take the lead for good. Oechsner fired a ball off the crossbar, right to Katie Waltenberger (Racine, Wis.-Horlick) in the 56th minute.

“We looked really good in some stretches,” said UWM head coach Michael Moynihan. “We created nice opportunities--we hit the pole three times.”

UWM outshot Evansville 15-8 in the contest, but committed four yellow cards. 19 Panthers saw action in the game, including 6 freshmen.

UWM next travels to Provo, Utah to take on BYU on Sept. 9 and Arizona on Sept. 11.
