2008 Europe Travel Blog

I'm on a boat, on the Seine River, in Paris, relaxing and taking in the sights with my teammates and coaches... ahhh, life is good. Still on very little sleep, we are loving Europe! Paris is amazing. After the Arc de Triumphe yesterday, I didn't know how much better it could get. But, after seeing the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Saint Chappelle and the many streets of Paris, I was truly breathless. Our feet hurt from walking all over while our eyes are closing and we faced a torrential down pour at times, but how many times are you in Paris? At the Eiffel Tower we went all the way to the top and enjoyed another set of amazing views of this beautiful city. Another highlight of the day came at lunch. I absolutely loved the waffles in Belgium and just had to try the crepes in France. I got a chocolate and banana crepe and it lived up to expectations. The day was not without its low points. The metros in Paris are often cramped and uneventful. But, today, we got our money's worth (or 50 Euros worth). Apparently, you need to keep your metro ticket. We were unaware of that fact and when we left the station we were stopped. Two of the people in our group were without and were forced to pay a fine. There was a flurry of French, but we did recognize the word "police" if we did not pay the fine. But, we did not let that ruin our evening. We had another amazing meal and here we are on a boat tour of Paris. Tonight we will get our last chance to enjoy this city before trying to make a last-ditch effort to get into the Louvre in the morning.
